Eurovision 2018 previews countdown: #28 ROMANIA – The Humans – “Goodbye”

Romania yodeled and rapped their way to the top 10 in the grand final last year and they’ve certainly given us some classic Eurovision moments over they years. This year, the Romanian public selected something far less crazy and controversial. Will The Humans make the same impact as previous Romanian entries though – and can they keep up Romania’s 100% qualification record?

The show organisers have certainly made it the biggest challenge yet for Romania to qualify – they are in the infamous second place in running order “death slot” in their semi-final. Is it a weak song though? Well, I certainly don’t dislike this song, but at same time it’s not something I’d put on repeat on Spotify.

It’s a mid-tempo pop-rock that could date from another decade (the 1980s) and isn’t necessarily going to set juries or televoters alight. That said, once it gets going (and it takes almost half the song’s runtime before you it does), I think it’s got quite a catchy chorus. Just wish it got to it a bit quicker! It was an unexpected winner at the Romanian national final, so I wouldn’t rule this out of qualifying once again for Romania, but even in the weaker semi-final, it’s a less sure fire thing than one would normally expect for them.
