It was a last minute decision to attend this concert, but I am very glad I did. A small set of past Eurovision performers, including a former winner, graced the stage of a compact, intimate venue near Kings Cross (The Water Rats pub) and took the opportunity to each give us a set of songs, including, of course, the songs they sang at Eurovision. My friends and I took a few pics and vids of course which you can see here… Continue reading “A trip to EuroStarz in Concert 2018”
Romania yodeled and rapped their way to the top 10 in the grand final last year and they’ve certainly given us some classic Eurovision moments over they years. This year, the Romanian public selected something far less crazy and controversial. Will The Humans make the same impact as previous Romanian entries though – and can they keep up Romania’s 100% qualification record? Continue reading “Eurovision 2018 previews countdown: #28 ROMANIA – The Humans – “Goodbye””
Here in the UK we might be braced for the “beast from the East” cold blast, but this weekend it’s a bumper set of national finals from no fewer than seven Eastern countries. Some of these finals contain a lot of songs so I’ve just pulled out my favourites from what I have seen, any particularly unusual ones, and collections of snippets of all the entries. Continue reading “Eurovision 2018 national selections: Look East (Armenia, Hungary, Latvia, Moldova, Romania, Slovenia and Ukraine previews)”
Absent last year due to a disqualification a few weeks before the contest (because the Romanian national broadcaster had racked up years of unpaid debts to the EBU), Romania are back with a bang this year. Love it or loathe it, this song will be one of the ones that gets noticed in the UK media. Can they keep their record of 100% qualification for the final intact (not counting last year!)?

Romania have been in Eurovision since 1994, but sporadic participation meant they didn’t become Eurovision regulars until 2002, when they appeared continuously in the final every year thereafter, always qualifying from their semi-final.

I’ll be jetting off for warmer climes for a week, but I’m not forgetting my blog in the meantime and with the UK’s Bonfire Night (or Guy Fawkes’ Night) taking place this weekend, what better time for a fire-themed Eurovision top 5? As it turns out, very few Eurovision song titles have used the word “fire” in the title but I’ve dug into the archives and have 5 fire-themed songs for your enjoyment. Continue reading “Bonfire Night: a Eurovision top 5”
No less than 5 countries in this next batch of video clips, including the host country, Sweden. Zoë from Austria got a huge ovation, and getting her quite emotional! She came back after Romania’s two performances (which are shown here) to do an accappella reprise of Loin d’ici. We’ve also got fan favourite Poland and the hotly tipped Croatia here as well. Continue reading “London Eurovision Preview Party 2016 video clips part 3: Zoë, Ovidiu Anton, Nina Kraljić, Michał Szpak and Frans”
In a lowly 40th place is a country that you wouldn’t expect to be bringing up the tail end of the rankings – Romania. They have been one of Eurovision’s most consistent performers, one of only four countries (outside of the Big 5) to have always qualified for the final since the introduction of the semi-finals in 2004. Will this be the year that their 100% record will be broken? Continue reading “Eurovision 2016 previews countdown: #40 ROMANIA – Ovidiu Anton – “Moment of Silence””
Time to head East once more and it’s a mixed bag of guilty pleasures and what might have been for one of the most hotly tipped songs of all yet inexplicably didn’t win their national final. Continue reading “Eurovision national finals best of the rest part 3: Moldova, Poland and Romania”
