Eurovision 2017 previews countdown: #43 LITHUANIA – Fusedmarc – “Rain of Revolution”

Someone has to receive the wooden spoon in the countdown, and I’m afraid that the (dis)honour this year falls on the largest of the three Baltic states, Lithuania.  Last year, Lithuania also finished the lowest of the three Baltic countries in the preview countdown, but ultimately, Donny Montell brought Lithuania its first top 10 result in 10 years (and only 2nd time ever) and was the best of the Baltics. Can they defy their position again in this year’s countdown?

Well, to be frank, that seems unlikely. The song itself is a bit of a loud mess and while Fusedmarc are described as an “electronic band” (a genre I like a lot), this seems to degenerate into a lot of shouting. The staging I expect will be very good for this which might improve its chances and the lead singer doesn’t lack for confidence but I think unless this has some sort of major transformation, I’m not sure this will make it out of the semi-finals, even with traditionally strong diaspora voting.

Lithuania had one of the longest and most protracted national selection processes this year – yet this was the result!  What are your thoughts on this though? Let me know in the comments.

I showed the videos of all this year’s songs to my mother to gauge her response. Many times she didn’t have much of a reaction, but where she did, I will note it down in the preview:

Mum’s reaction: Raised eyebrows, “no, just no”

Just the one video at the moment for this as the live performance in the Lithuanian national final is also the official music video.

When the the only good thing that you can say about a song, is that the staging is pretty good, you know you are on to a loser.
