It was a last minute decision to attend this concert, but I am very glad I did. A small set of past Eurovision performers, including a former winner, graced the stage of a compact, intimate venue near Kings Cross (The Water Rats pub) and took the opportunity to each give us a set of songs, including, of course, the songs they sang at Eurovision. My friends and I took a few pics and vids of course which you can see here… Continue reading “A trip to EuroStarz in Concert 2018”
My lovely friend Zoltan decided that for his birthday it would be a fun idea to watch through the Eurovision Song Contest from the year of his birth, 1975. A group of us watched together in his flat while others friends from around the UK and other parts of Europe had watched separately and recorded their scores to be played once we’d watched them all. Would this 21st century jury score very differently from the 1975 one…? Continue reading “Eurovision Song Contest 1975 rewatch”
This preview brings another artist returning to the contest. He wasn’t a winner like Alexander Rybak, but as part of the duo The Common Linnets, Waylon was the runner-up to Conchita in 2014 and earned The Netherlands their best result since 1975 (when they had the last of their 4 wins). Spookily, number 23 in the countdown is exactly the same position that four-times winners The Netherlands occupied in last year’s countdown. Internally selected O’G3NE are no strangers to Eurovision, having competed in Junior Eurovision in 2010. Can they keep up the recent good form of the Netherlands? The last point on the compass in this first sweep around the Eurovision map is west. The Netherlands has a long and rich history in Eurovision, being a founder member of the contest, and a four-times winner. With 57 entries, there were a lot of songs to review before deciding upon my top 5!

Next up in our countdown are four-times winners, the Netherlands. They haven’t won since 1975 though and between 2005 and 2012 they didn’t qualify for the finals. They finally qualified in 2013 with Anouk and in 2014 stormed to runners up place with The Common Linnets. It was back to non-qualification last year though so they’ve gone back to the folk and country music that served them so well in 2014. Will Douwe Bob repeat The Common Linnets’ success?
