With Portugal having finally laid to rest their long-held record of country with the most contest appearances without a win, that dubious baton has now passed to Cyprus. They mark the halfway point in my countdown, and with three grand final qualifications in a row after a year’s hiatus in 2014, can Cyprus follow Portugal and break their Eurovision duck? With Portugal’s win in 2017, Cyprus now carries the dubious record of having entered Eurovision the most times without a win. Unlike pre-win Portugal, they have at least reached the top 5 on a couple of occasions, but even with the regular votes from Greece, that’s the closest they have come. Still some good songs to pick from among their list of entries though! Continue reading “My top 5 songs from…Cyprus”
Finishing above Greece in this countdown for the second year in a row, Cyprus don’t quite make the top 10 as they did last time. Here we go with another set of videos! Eleftheria Eleftheriou did a medley of Greek entries, and threw in a Cypriot and Turkish one for good measure. I just have clips of the three Greek ones though. Also in this set of videos are two entries tipped to do well – Spain and Cyprus. Quite a bit of Eurovision news over the last few days, not least today’s reveal of the 6 acts in the UK national selection.
That takes place live on BBC4 this coming Friday, 26 February. The 6 songs were played for the first time on Ken Bruce’s Radio 2 show this morning. I think I have my top 2 or 3 already but you can take a listen for yourself at the BBC’s Eurovision site.
