With Portugal’s win in 2017, Cyprus now carries the dubious record of having entered Eurovision times without a win. Unlike pre-win Portugal, they have at least reached the top 5 on a couple of occasions, but even with the regular votes from Greece, that’s the closest they have come. Finishing above Greece in this countdown for the second year in a row, Cyprus don’t quite make the top 10 as they did last time. It didn’t help that much in the actual contest though, finishing in 21st place in the final (though they at least qualified when Greece did not). Their entry last year was one of the most testosterone-filled, and you could say something similar of this year’s entry – will it fare better and can they beat Greece again?

We finally reach the top 10! And at number 10 is a country that usually plays second fiddle to their Greek mainland cousins, it’s Eurovision’s other Mediterranean island country – Cyprus. They’ve gone with something completely different to their usual entries this year and taken Eurofans by (positive) surprise. The testosterone comes off this band in waves and they’ll bring a lot of energy to the Eurovision stage – could this finally be Cyprus’s year?

Quite a bit of Eurovision news over the last few days, not least today’s reveal of the 6 acts in the UK national selection.
That takes place live on BBC4 this coming Friday, 26 February. The 6 songs were played for the first time on Ken Bruce’s Radio 2 show this morning.
