Finally we are into the top 10 of my countdown – the upper echelons of my rankings for this year’s songs, and of course, this means it is tantalisingly close to the start of the contest week! First up in my top 10 is a country that hasn’t often had songs I’ve really enjoyed but this year changes all that, and this is by far and away my favourite Polish Eurovision entry.
Recently married Gromee is a well known DJ and music producer, and looking a little like a very smiley Judge Doom from Who Framed Roger Rabbit?, while the also very smiley lead vocalist Lukas Meijer might bring some Swedish Eurovision luck to Poland. The guys are lovely (I had my photo taken with them at London Eurovision Party) and they were both so friendly. Lukas was out dancing with the fans later on in the night and when the DJ played their song, he did an impromptu mime on the stairs up from the dancefloor (the security guard wouldn’t let him back on stage!!).
It’s a really upbeat song, one of the most uptempo and danciest songs of the contest – it feels so un-Polish and I think you can feel the Swedish influence of Lukas as he co-produced the song with Gromee. I have a feeling we’ll be dancing to this a lot in the bars and clubs of Lisbon – such a catchy and feel good song. I am sure it will qualify as it’s both in the weaker semi-final and this will definitely get the big Polish diaspora televote going for it. May not get the juries going, but it will be enough to ensure we are dancing along to this in the grand final – and that will please me!
