Up next Eastern vibes and, as Terry Wogan would say, “a hint of the Mongolian nose flute” – yes, it’s Armenia. Consistently highly placed, they achieved their 6th top 10 placing last year in just 10 appearances at Eurovision. They only placed #19 in this countdown – and they have the same placing this year. Can Artsvik pull off a similar improvement between their placing here and the actual result?
I’m not totally sure what to think of this one – the distinctly Armenian sound and non-linear nature of the song make it stand out. My criticism would be is that it does have moments of “shouty woman” syndrome but I think the overall effect manages to negate that downside for me. I have no doubt Armenia will bring some amazing staging – both their song this year and last year are more like performance art pieces than a traditional song. Artsvik herself is very sweet I gather – would have liked to see this performed in London but sadly it wasn’t on her itinerary!
