Eurovision 2017 previews countdown: #23 THE NETHERLANDS – O’G3NE – “Lights and Shadows”

Spookily, number 23 in the countdown is exactly the same position that four-times winners The Netherlands occupied in last year’s countdown. Dishy Douwe Bob overturned this mid-table placing and finished a strong 11th in the grand final. After a decade of non-qualifications, the Dutch have qualified for the 3 of the last 4 finals. Internally selected O’G3NE are no strangers to Eurovision, having competed in Junior Eurovision in 2010. Can they keep up the recent good form of the Netherlands?

With this entry, it’s all about the harmonies – a three-piece girl group, O’G3NE are made up of three sisters and their song is co-written by their father. A family affair then! Winners of The Voice of Holland in 2014, they had a number 1 album in The Netherlands last year, so they have proven popularity and plenty of experience. All should stand them in good stead for Kyiv.

I’ll be honest, this just isn’t my cup of tea but seems to be popular among many and I think they will get both points from juries and from the public vote. It’s not a winner, but I wouldn’t be surprised to see this in the final and doing better than I would have placed them personally.
