Eurovision 2017 previews countdown: #36 GERMANY – Levina – “Perfect Life”

We’re not yet 10 songs into the countdown but we already encounter our second Big 5 country – Germany. They have more Eurovision appearances than any other country and have two wins under their belt, but they are desperate to avoid coming last this year. If they did, that would be three last place finishes in a row – and that would be a Eurovision record they definitely would not want. Can Levina help spare Germany’s blushes?

Last year, Jamie-Lee finished high up in the countdown (#13) but flopped at the contest. I don’t think that was people disliked the song, just not enough people like it enough to vote for it and it did badly with juries as well. I suspect this could be the fate of “Perfect Life” this year. It’s not horrible, but it’s no more than average (I would describe it as ‘beige’) and while London-based Levina herself comes across as very personable and friendly (and gave an enjoyable performance of “Valerie” at the London Eurovision Preview Party), I just can’t see this generating many jury or public votes. I think there is a real possibility of another last place – a shame as Germany really do try hard and Levina seems lovely!

  1. Clearly inspired by Titanium (the main hook may as well as be a sample), but not as good. I’m sure it will do well.
