Eurovision 2016 previews countdown: #25 DENMARK – Lighthouse X – “Soldiers of Love”

At number 25 in the countdown, it’s the point all the songs from this point would make the final. First up in the top 25 is the second Nordic country on this list, and three-times winner – Denmark. Once again, the Danish public voted for a boy band over two solo female singers in the three act national superfinal – did they vote wisely?

The boys of Lighthouse X are inevitably fine examples of Scandinavian manhood and the song itself bounces along pleasantly and is undeniably catchy. You just get the sense you’ve heard it many times before at Eurovision, and particularly from Denmark. My Hungarian friend Zoltan is a big fan of this, though the rest of my Eurovision coven are less keen. I don’t actively dislike it, but from a selfish national point of view, I’d probably be happy if this didn’t qualify as it’s closest to the UK in terms of genre and artist so I want the UK to get the votes of those keen on this sort of music and act!

I think it stands a better chance of qualifying than last year when Denmark failed to qualify (once again with a boy band) but generally the Danes qualify more often than not so I think we could well be humming along to this come the Saturday final.

Although not a great song it is certainly upbeat and stands out from a lot of the blandness of the songs this year. This should definitely be in the final.
